As the Organizing Secretary for IRACON 2023, our journey began over a year ago with the ambitious goal of orchestrating a seamless and impactful conference. We initiated the process by dividing responsibilities among various committees, recognizing the complexity and depth of tasks required. Committees were formed to handle scientific aspects, workshop coordination, web and app development, prize management, souvenir preparation, travel and accommodation logistics, social media promotion, and the creation of flyers and branding materials.
The heart of the conference lay in its scientific program, a colossal task overseen by Dr. Rajendra Varaprasad, our esteemed Scientific Chair. Dr. Varaprasad, along with a dedicated team, undertook extensive research on scientific topics and engaged in countless meetings, some stretching into the late hours of the night. The result was a meticulously crafted scientific program that aimed to push the boundaries of knowledge in rheumatology.
The process of curating the program involved selecting speakers and chairpersons who were not only experts in their respective fields but also brought a global perspective to the conference. Authorities from different corners of the world were invited to share their insights, enriching the discourse on rheumatological advancements. The overarching theme, “Crossing Frontiers in Rheumatology,” was not just a tagline; it encapsulated our commitment to breaking new ground in the field.
Throughout the conference’s preparation, regular meetings served as the linchpin of our coordination efforts. These sessions allowed each committee to update the team on progress, address challenges, and collectively steer the conference towards success. The synergy among the committees and their dedication to their specific tasks were instrumental in overcoming hurdles and ensuring that each aspect of the conference was meticulously planned.
The logistical challenges were no less demanding. Managing the conference venue, coordinating with the audiovisual team, arranging infrastructure, ensuring accommodation and hospitality for delegates – these were multifaceted responsibilities that required a high level of organization and attention to detail. Balancing the need for a smooth conference flow with the delivery of quality science and hospitality posed a unique challenge.
The workshops on the opening day, November 23rd, were a critical component of the conference, drawing significant attendance and appreciation. These sessions provided an interactive platform for participants to delve deeper into specific topics and engage with experts in a more intimate setting.
The guidance and leadership of Dr. G. Narsimulu, our Organizing Chair, played a pivotal role in steering the conference to success. Dr. Narsimulu’s wealth of experience and strategic oversight provided a steady hand throughout the planning and execution phases. The Hon’ble Governor honoured us with her presence at the inaugural ceremony, delivering an impactful speech that resonated well with the audience. Her words were inspiring, emphasizing the importance of fostering growth in the field of rheumatology.
Beyond the conventional, IRACON 2023 introduced unique features, including IRACON TV, where national and international faculty were interviewed, providing an interactive dimension to the conference. Additionally, the conference featured newspapers and the IRA museum, offering a historical retrospective of the Indian Rheumatology Association.
In retrospect, IRACON 2023 stands as a testament to the collective effort, dedication, and passion of everyone involved. The conference not only delivered on its promise of scientific excellence but also provided a platform for networking, collaboration, and the exchange of innovative ideas in rheumatology. The challenges were many, but the collaborative spirit, attention to detail, and shared commitment to advancing the field made the journey worthwhile. As the curtains closed on the conference on November 26th, we could proudly reflect on a job well done and a significant contribution to the field of rheumatology.
